Marvin AIA/CES Registered Continuing Education Seminars - AAMA 2605-02
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
This presentation contains information on AAMA specifications and how to compare them. Participants will learn about the tests that a product must pass to be labeled AAMA 2605-02. The most current AAMA rating system is included. The course has an explanation on why finishes fail and describes how you can achieve a more durable finish than typical 70% Kynar. Also, there is information on how Marvin windows and doors achieve this specification.
- Beyond Repair: Historic Window Replacement
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (1 H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
This program examines fenestration issues inherent in historic building projects. Because seemingly minor changes in window configuration can have surprisingly major - and adverse - effects on the overall appearance of a building, most historic district design guidelines pay special attention to windows. Window evaluation and preservation methods are reviewed along with rehabilitation planning and window specification for historic applications.
- Building Green
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (1 H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
Sustainability and environmental friendly design are becoming standards of best practice. This presentation focuses on "green" thinking that has influenced the fenestration industry, showing how window and door materials, manufacturing and installation practices can help qualify a project as green. Learn more about rating programs that support "green" building, such as LEED, ENERGY STAR, NFRC, and Life Cycle Analysis.
- Composite Materials and Pultruded Fiberglass in the Window and Door Industry
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
Integrity Windows and Doors has developed an informative presentation designed as an educational tool for the architectural community. Included are discussions about the history of fiberglass, properties and characteristics of alternative materials, and the value of alternative materials in enhancing a home’s design. Attendees will learn a general overview of the pultrusion process.
- Controlling Sound Transmission
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (1 H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
Controlling Sound Transmission will cover the importance of building products acoustical performance and ways to improve product ratings. Included will be information covering sound transmission loss, acoustical ratings and how to achieve the best ratings for a buildings location and intended use.
- Glazing Codes
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
Receive an overview of the safety glazing requirements in the International Building Codes (IBC). This presentation explains major window and door safety glazing requirements, what types of glazing can be used to meet standards and testing and labeling requirements to meet code.
- Integrated Performance Standards
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
Window performance standards are confusing topics and explaining them can be difficult. This presentation helps to explain and shows how it pertains to specifying a project. The Integrated Performance Standard, as a result of the merging of several AAMA and WDMA standards, gives the specifier one single document for comparing products of all material types. The presenter will explain some of the highlights and provide guidance on how to use when comparing and specifying fenestration products.
- Selective Coatings for Energy Efficient Windows
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
This program describes low emmissivity (Low E) glass coatings, both from scientific and application perspectives. It describes how spectrally selective coatings work and shows how coated glass is manufactured. Performance data and Low E glass applications for various climates are presented.
- That's the Beauty of Wood
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
Examine why wood is an excellent material for the construction of windows and doors. Characteristics of wood are reviewed in the context of sustainability. Wood processing considerations and treatments regarding shrinkage, degradation and preservation are discussed. Wood species including mahoganies from all over the world are compared.
- The Art & Science of Daylighting
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
This presentation will explain the benefits of natural light being used in building construction. After breaking down the elements of sunlight, attendees will learn how to control it using various glazing options. Learn some key design solutions to maximize the light brought into a room or building.
- Understanding Energy-Efficient Windows & Doors
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
This session covers all the basics about how windows and doors loose or gain heat. Included in this are what makes a window energy-efficient, how frame materials perform differently, how to measure a window’s performance, and how to specify the right window. Separate the myths from the facts all while learning the benefits of energy efficient windows & doors.
- Window Fenestration and the USGBC LEED Green Building Rating System
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
This presentation gives an overview of the ways the US Green Building Council's various LEED® Programs apply to windows. It reviews credit requirements within the commercial and residential rating systems, and goes into detail about how windows can contribute points towards LEED certification.
- Window Installation Fundamentals
1 Health, Safety & Welfare (H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
Learn the basics about window installation. This program provides a general overview of best-practice installation procedures for wood windows, aluminum clad windows, and structural installations, including a discussion on opening and unit preparations.
- Architectural Tour
5 Health, Safety & Welfare (H/S/W) Learning Unit (LU)
Marvin Window Factory Take a one and a half day tour of the Marvin Windows factory located in Warroad, MN. This tour is geared to promote the flexibility and performances of both the Marvin and Integrity product lines. Marvin made-to-order is emphasized and an introduction to custom products, residential, and commercial applications are explored.
